When you create a job post on Wizehire, you're asked to choose a location which will determine your market—a specific geographic area where you can post jobs to. Understanding how markets work helps you post in the right locations and manage your hiring costs effectively.
📍 What is a Market?
A market refers to a defined geographical area containing the city/state location where your job post will appear. Markets are determined based on location data specific to each country:
United States: Markets are based on Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) defined by U.S. Census data. In very dense areas, we may use smaller “metropolitan divisions” to provide more accurate targeting.
Example: The Boston/Quincy market includes over 100 surrounding towns and cities.
Canada: Markets are based on economic regions rather than provinces. These areas are designed to reflect population density and labor force trends.
🗺️ How are markets assigned?
When you post your first job on Wizehire, your city/state location will determine the market you are subscribed to. All following jobs you post will need to be in the same market unless you add a new one.
The ability to add additional markets depends on your plan tier - keep reading for more information.
Wizehire automatically maps job locations to the correct market behind the scenes, so you don’t have to guess which market a city belongs to.
You can view your assigned markets in the Wizehire app under Settings > Subscription, or Flex Markets (only available to eligible accounts).
👥 How Many Markets Do I Get?
Your plan determines how many markets you can post in:
Plan Type | Market Access |
Quickstart | 1 market only |
Essentials | 1 included + option to add 1 more for $249/month (pro-rated) |
Growth & Concierge | Multiple markets included, based on contract |
🔄 Note for Essentials: When you post a job in a new market, it may trigger a pro-rated charge for that market. If you close all jobs in the new market, billing for that market will stop at the end of the month.
🧠 Tip: Use Flex Markets to Stay Agile
If you’re on a Growth or Concierge plan, you may have access to Flex Markets, which let you easily add, swap, or deactivate markets based on your changing hiring needs.
